To help govern their new colony fairly because when you read the excerpt you can clearly justify that they're trying to set up a self government for the good of their colony

The correct answer is A) to help them govern their new colony fairly.

The Pilgrims created the Mayflower Compact to help them govern their new colony fairly.

The Mayflower was the name of the ship that transported English people to the Americas in 1620, trying to reach the coast of Virginia. Some wether storms complicated the trip and they ended up reaching Cape Cod, Massachusetts. When they were navigating the sea to reach for its final destination, they elaborated a set of rules that would serve for self-governance. The Pilgrims wanted to have the basic regulation to make the colony a prosperous and peaceful place.
