"Read my lips: no new taxes."
This was a popular phrase that Bush pronounced during his presidential campaign in 1988. It was this promise that allowed him to win the elections. But, in 1990 the Democratic Congress proposed the increase of existing taxes as a way to reduce the national budget deficit. Bush agreed with this decision and failed to his own words.
2. Bush compromised with conservatives on tariffs and the environment.
President Bush's policies in this concern were contradictory. While his campaign should focus on the conservation of the environment, his short-term policy decisions prioritized the economic benefit to the conservation of the ecosystem.
