Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. She was the one who used the underground railroad to rescue approximately seventy enslaved people. She took trips back and forth until all of the slaves she could help were in a safer environment.

She was important because she saved a lot of people in that time from the torture of slavery.

Hope this helps!

Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. She was born into slavery, however escaped and afterward had made thirteen missions to rescue another seventy or so enslaved people, family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad, which was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century.
