It was very well known that during the operation Desert Storm, when United States in 1991 fought the Iraqi Government as a result for the invasion to Kuwait, as the Iraqi troops withdrew, they set fire to many oild fields as a retailiation against the United States, possibly meaning by that that they were not willing to let the oil fall on their hands.
