{x}^(2) - 4x - 6 = 0 \\ x = (4 + √(16 + 24) )/(2) \\ x = (4 + √(40) )/(2) \\ x = (4 + 2 √(10) )/(2) \\ x = 2 + √(10)
OR

{x}^(2) - 4x - 6 = 0 \\ x = (4 - √(16 + 24) )/(2) \\ x = (4 - √(40) )/(2) \\ x = (4 - 2 √(10) )/(2) \\ x = 2 - √(10)
