The geographic feature that contributed to the begining of the farming communities was the low lying flood plains that had very rich and fertile soil. The flood plains got new soils every year after the flood water receded. These plains were highly fertile and helped in the growth of quality crops that could support the total settlement living nearby. Most civilizations were formed near the rivers to help farmers grow crops easily. The Indus Valley Civilization was formed beside the river Indus, while the Mesopotamian Civilization was found beside he rivers Tigris and Euphrates.
