A= -8 is the answer because you subtract five from both sides the subtract 3/4 and 1/2 to get 1/4. The divide -2 by 1/4 to get the answer x= -8

(3)/(4)x+5-(1)/(2)x=3\qquad|\text{multiply both sides by 4}\\\\\\ot4^1\cdot(3)/(\\ot4_1)x+4\cdot5-\\ot4^2\cdot(1)/(\\ot2_1)x=4\cdot3\\\\3x+20-2x=12\\\\(3x-2x)+20=12\qquad|\text{subtract 20 from both sides}\\\\x=-8
