Krishna is his charioteer and before the battle starts, Arjuna finds out that the enemy put all his relatives, friends, teachers to aligned to battle him. This started a dilemma that Arjuna must deal and his resolution was to battle them, fulfill his destiny and find his who he really is.

Krishna answer to this dilemma is that Arjuna should kill his kinsmen because he is not killing their souls, only their bodies. The body itself is unimportant. Arjuna was advised to fight and not sacrifice the cause of religion for material or bodily considerations. Krishna advises Arjuna to fight and kill enemies even though they are his relatives. In Bhagwad Gita Chapter 2 Verse 31, Krishna says " Considering your specific duty as a Kshatriya, you should know that there is no better engagement for you than fighting on religious principles, so there is no need for hesitation."
