Both values are 400.

For question 1, If you follow the x value 1 up to the line in which it hits, it matches up with 400 square feet. We can also use this as a unit rate since the x value was 1.

Answer:

1. If 1 gallon of paint has been used, then 400 square feet of the wall will be painted.

2. The unit rate is 400 square feet per gallon.

Explanation:

In the given graph x-axis represents the paint used in gallons and y-axis represents the painter area in square feet.

From the given figure it is clear that line passes through the point (1,400) it means if 1 gallon of paint has been used, then 400 square feet of the wall will be painted.

If a line passes through two points
(x_1,y_1) and
(x_2,y_2), then the unit rate of line is

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

From the given graph it is clear that the line passes through the points (0,0) and (1/4,100). It So the unit rate is

m=(100-0)/((1)/(4)-0)

m=(100)/((1)/(4))

m=100* 4

m=400

The unit rate is 400 square feet per gallon.
