Tina bought two pairs of regular socks and one pair of long fleece socks .The fleece socks cost $12.If the final price ,including 5% sales tax ,was $30.45,what was the price of each pair of regular socks?

So first we need to get rid of that naughty sales tax so we need to divide 30.45 by 1.05 since 30.45 is 105% of the pre-tax price. We get the answer of 29 and subtract 12 from 29 since the long fleece socks cost 12 bucks and we get 17 dollars. Since there are 2 pairs of regular songs we divide 17 by 2 and get 8.5

So the regular socks cost $8.50

Checking work 8.5*2=17
12+17=29
1.05*29=30.45
