For biologists, what does the term evolution imply when describing the work out Charles Darwin?

Evolution was defined by Charles Darwin as ‘Descent with modification’ which is his idea of the changing of species over a time (Typically with evolution a long time! Unless talking about bacteria where they can evolve with as little as even 5-10 years!) , which can lead to new species that share a common ancestor.

I hope this helps~!
