How were geography and slavery related

where soil was really fertile, like in the southern colonies, lots of slave labor was needed to work the plantations. in the middle colonies, there was still slave labor, but not as much because they had less fertile soil, meaning smaller plantations and farms. in the northern colonies, the soil wasn't super fertile, so there was almost no need for slave labor because there weren't a lot of farms.

In America the Southern colonies, amd eventually states, had hottter climates. The climate was perfect for cash crops such as tobacco, cotton, sugar, and indigo. Early settlers set up large farms - plantations - that required workers, it was better to buy a slave than a traditional worker. this caused an increase of slaves in the southern parts of America
