You simply add the expressions together since you want to find the total number of tadpoles.
(7t + 5) + (8t-3)
Addition is commutative so you can move the numbers around and add like terms.
7t + 8t + 5 - 3 ----> Simplify
15t + 2 is the final expression that shows how many tadpoles you and your friend have collectively.
