Taxes were the main cause for the French Revolution. France government taxation regime was excessive and unfair. They had to pay direct taxes, indirect taxes but nobility and clergy were exempt from direct taxes. However, they did not think that no one should pay taxes, taxes had to be collected for the common welfare but they were to be taxed fairly and spent rationally.

Another important cause for the Revolution was that Royalty seemed to enjoy some innate rights while commoners’ were neglected. With the revolution, the idea that there were natural undeniable rights to all human beings such as liberty and, property came forth. The idea that rights should be written in a Constitution was set forth during the French Revolution. People did not feel represented by government but the opposite, they felt exploited and that gave place to the Revolution too.
