Have all the terms containing the variable on one side of the equation and the rest of the terms on the other side of the equation.

I will put all terms containing the variable b on the left side of the equation and the rest on the right side of the equation.

Subtract 8b from both sides of the equation.

-9 -12b = 3

Add 9 to both sides of the equation to isolate the term with the variable b.

-12b = 12

Divide both sides of the equation by -12 to solve for b.

b = -1
