Let x be the normal hourly rate

Total hours worked = 37

Regular hours worked = 36 and OT hours = 37-36 = 1 hr

If regular rate is x, OT rate = 1.2x

The first 36 hours are at regular rate x so amount earned = 36x

The next 1 hour is at 1.2x so amount earned = 1.2x (1) = 1.2x

Total earned = 36x + 1.2x = $$578.46

37.2 x = $578.46

x = 578.46/37.2 = 15.55

Normal hourly rate = $15.55
