Starting with this:

3(2x + 4) = - 6
First you would distribute the 3 into the ( )
so 2 would become 6 and 4 would become 12

6x + 12 = - 6
next you subtract 12 from -6

6 x = - 18
now you divide -18/6

( - 18)/(6) = - 3

then for #3.

3x - 3 = 13
the next step would be to add 3 to 13

3x = 16
then divide 3 from 16 to get

(16)/(3) = 5.333333333
so around 5.3
