There are 6 glasses of natural fruit juices, 7 glasses of soft drinks, and 4 glasses of milk shakes served at a get-together. Savio chooses 2 glasses in succession without replacement. Find the probability that he selects a glass of natural fruit juice, then a milk shake.

Answer:

(3)/(34)

Explanation:

In Statistics, the AND function, is simplified, by multiplying the probability of the two events with one another:

P(AandB)=P(A)*P(B)

The first function is the probability of picking a glass of fruit juice from the total number of glasses. There is a total of 17 glasses, and 6 of them are fruit juice:

P(A)=(6)/(17)

After taking a fruit juice, there are only 16 glasses left, of which 4 are milkshakes:

P(B)=(4)/(16) =(1)/(4)

Therefore:

P(AandB)=(6)/(17)*(1)/(4) =(6)/(68)=(3)/(34)
