I need some pointers on how to write an essay

Have your introduction of the topic which means a good opening paragraph that captures the interest of your reader and tells why your topic is important. Then your three thesis statements and then your conclusion at the end.

You want to use Times new Roman font and make sure the margins are spaced 1 point. You want to use compound sentences. Down below i've linked some helpful pictures.
