$(3)/(10) = (30)/(100) \rightarrow (4)/(10)  =(x)/(100)$

To find the missing number, you have to cross multiply. Here's the equation:

$(4)/(10) = (x)/(100) \\ \\ 100 * 4 = 10x$

Multiply:

$100 * 4 = 400 \\ 400 = 10x$

To leave the variable x alone, you need to divide both sides by 10

(400)/(10) = (10x)/(10)

Divide:

$400 / 10 = 40 \\ x = 40$
