given \: equation: {x}^(2) + 8x + 20= 0 \\ \\ x = \frac{ - b \pm \sqrt{ {b}^(2) - 4ac} }{2a} \\ \\ x = \frac{ -8 \pm \sqrt{ {8}^(2) - 4 * 1 * 20} }{2 * 1} \\ \\ x = (-8 \pm √(64-80) )/(2) \\ \\ x = (-8 \pm √(-16) )/(2) \\ \\ x = (-8 \pm 4i )/(2) \\ \\x = (-8 + 4i )/(2) \: \: and \: \: (-8 - 4i )/(2)\\ \\ \boxed{x = -4+2i \ \ and\ \ -4-2i}
