98 - 9y + 10 (3+y) = 213

98 - 9y + 10 (3+y) -98= 213-98

-9y+10(3+y)=115

y+30=115

y+30-30=115-30

y=85

Hope this helps!

We expand the bracket and group like terms

98 - 9y + 10(3 + y) = 213

98 - 9y + 30 + 10y = 213

- 9y + 10y = 213 - 98 - 30

\therefore \: y = 85
