Why was smallpox important in history?

It’s important to history because it’s a deadly disease very rare but can be contagious. Or you can say that it spreads VERYYYY easily. Although there is no treatment or cure for small pox but however, you can get a vaccine to prevent it. The only problem is that the vaccine effect risk is way to high for pistols at low exposure. Thank you❤️❤️
