5x + 9 = 8x - 36
9 = 3x - 36
45 = 3x
15 = x


5x + 9 = 8x - 36
5(15) + 9 + 8(15) - 36 = ac
75 + 9 + 120 - 36 = ac
168 = ac

D is the correct answer
