5 - 3(4x + 7) = 2(x + 5) [Given]

5 - 12x + 21 = 2x + 10 [Distribute]

5 - 12x +12x + 21 = 2x + 10 +12x [Cancel]

5 + 21 = 2x + 10 + 12x

26 = 10 + 14x [Combine like terms]

26 - 10 = 10 + 14x - 10 [Cancel]

16 = 14x

16/14 = 14x/14 [Divide]

16/14 = x

x = 1 2/14

x = 1 1/7

Hopefully this helps?
