As Florida’s population grew, so did the demand on the environment and natural resources. Water soon became an important issue for use in drinking, bathing, transportation, farming, and some industry. Pipes led water from a layer of limestone that underlies Florida and parts of South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. Even today, scientists are concerned about protecting and replenishing this natural resource.
