Four times the difference of a number,x,and 2 is 20

So I am assuming that it is supposed to be set up like this:

4(x-2)=20

All you have to do is simplify, and isolate the x value. To do that, you first divide both sides by 4, to get

x-2= 5

Then you add 2 to both sides to cancel out the two on the left.

Then you get x=7.
