Since, the flower bed is in the shape of a rectangular prism.

Its dimensions are as:

length = 3 feet , width = 16 feet , height = 6 inches

a) We have to determine that, how many cubic feet of topsoil is needed to fill the flower bed. So, we have to determine the volume of the flower bed.

Volume of rectangular prism with length 'l', width 'w' and height 'h' is given by =
l * w * h

So, Volume of flower bed =
l * w * h

=
3 * 16 * 6

=
18 * 16

= 288 cubic feet

So, 288 cubic feet of topsoil is needed to fill the flower bed.

b) Since, topsoil is spread at the rate of 4 cubic feet per minute. We have to determine that, how long it took to spread the topsoil.

Time taken to spread the topsoil =
288 * 4

= 1,152 minutes

So, it took 1,152 minutes to spread the topsoil.
