In DNA double helix, the two strands of DNA are held together by hydrogen bonds. The nucleotides on one strand base pairs with the nucleotide on the other strand. The secondarystructure is responsible for the shape that the nucleic acidassumes. The bases in the DNA are classified as purines and pyrimidines.

There are two kinds of nucleic acids. There is deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, and ribonucleic acid, or RNA. All nucleic acids are made of structures called the nucleotides. Every nucleotide is made of phosphate, a ribose or deoxyribose sugar, and a structure called a base which contains nitrogen.
