Anne Bradstreet, -1612-1672- was born in a wealthy puritan family in North Hampton, England. She could be considered unorthodox due to the fact she was a highly educated woman for the time she lived in, and this was already a not very common situation for a woman in the 1600s.

The reason why she is considered unorthodox is because she would write her poems based on the woman´s role in the society of the time. Considering she was a puritan and the time she lived in, writing about this matters was a challenge to the conservative and predominant ideals of that time. Additionally, she wrote about politics and history, something really unusual for a woman in her time, and she also used to be quite sarcastic in her wirtings, which considering her background was also really unorthodox.
