Start with 1/2 and add or subtract the fractions along the path, always moving down or to the right. The objective is to obtain a total of 1 after having added the last fraction 1/12.

The common denominator is 24, let's write 24 times the fractions here

12 10 -7 6

8 -9 4 1

-4 6 5 2

There are four simple paths, one for each of our columns. Their sums are 29, 26, 20, 24

24 means 24/24 or 1, that's the one. 1/2 + 5/12 + -7/24 + 1/4 + 1/24 + 1/12 = 1
