Which statement gives an example that best demonstrates how the geosphere has affected the evolution of life on Earth?

A.
Some spiders that live in caves have lost functioning eyes, which are unnecessary in an environment without light.
B.
Certain marine mammals have lost functioning hindlimbs, which can impede an animal's movement through water.
C.
Certain plants have evolved to absorb pollutants like carbon monoxide and formaldehyde through their leaves.
D.
Some hummingbirds have evolved to have very long beaks that can only reach the nectar of specific flowers.

B, C and D correctly demostrate how evolution has changed animals and the interaction between organisms, but they aren't related to the GEOSPHERE.

A explains that spiders that live in caves (this part is the most important one, since it demostrates that the example mentiones a geopsheric aspect) lost their eyes since they can't see with them anyway.

Hope it helped,

Answer:

Option C

Step-by-step explanation:

During early stage of development of earth and its atmosphere, the amount of carbon dioxide was negligible. Also, the atmosphere comprises of several harmful gases such as carbon mono oxide, formaldehyde etc. which were released as a product of geologic processes such as volcanic eruptions, rock weathering, iron oxidation etc. Since, geosphere and biosphere evolved simultaneously, the process of photosynthesis has initiated by that time and hence the abundant gases were used in it.

hence, option C is correct
