By itself, a motor protein will not spontaneously walk on a microtubule. However, the hydrolysis of atp to adp is spontaneous. Energy from the hydrolysis of atp can be used to power motor proteins to walk. What type of reaction is this?

Motor proteins convert chemical energy into mechanical work by the hydrolysis of ATP.

Kinesin and dinein are motor proteins that use microtubule. Kinesin is responsible for anterograde movement, while dineins are capable of a retrograde sliding movement. Kinesin’s most important function is spindle formation in mitotic and meiotic and chromosomes separation. Dineins drive intracellular transport.
