A circle with a 10 inch diameter is cut from a square piece of tin with 10 inch sides. To the nearest tenth of a square inch, find the amount of tin that is wasted.

The area of the square is

The amount of the square that is not in the circle is

... (1 -π/4)d² = 0.2146018d² ≈ 21.5 in² . . . for d=10 in
