Given

she received 34 dimes and nickels combined from a costumer If the change totaled $2.05

find out how many dimes and nickels she receive

To proof

let the number of dimes = x

let the number of nickels = y

thus the equation becomes

x + y = 34

y = 34 -x

number of nickels = y = 34 -x

as given she change totaled $2.05

nickel and dimes value in$

1 nickel = $0.05

1 dimes = $ 0.10

FORMULA

value of the dimes + value of the nickel = total value

(0.10)x +(34 -x) 0.05 = 2.05

0.10x + 1.7 - 0.05x = 2.05

0.05x = 2.05 - 1.7

0.05 x = 0.35

x =7

thus the number of dimes = 7

the number of nickel = 27

Hence proved
