Squanto, an Indian that speaks English pretty well due to past experiences with a London merchant, helped the settlers/Pilgrims of Plymouth survive. He did this by teaching them how to find their way around the area, how to fish for food and resources, and how to plant and properly grow agriculture.

If you want some extra proof, here's an excerpt from an official United States history textbook - titled: 'A History of US, concise edition.'

Squanto helped the settlers of Plymouth survive by helping the settlers communicate with the Native Americans. He taught them how to plant corn. He taught them how to catch fish. He taught them where to find nuts and berries.

Have a great day and I Hope this helped :)
