How would I solve this?? 5p-8(p+1)>16

*To solve inequalities is similar to solving equations: isolate the desired variable to one side.

So firstly, distribute -8 to (p + 1):


5p-8p-8>16

Next, combine like terms:


-3p-8>16

Next, add 8 to both sides:


-3p>24

Lastly, divide both sides by -3. Now since you are dividing by a negative, you will be flipping the inequality symbol as well. Your final answer will be
p<-8
