In some states crime is a felony that is punishable by inprisonment in a state prison whilst a misdemeanor is generally a crime that is punishable for a year or less in prison or a local jail. In general, a misdemeanor is a smaller, less impactful offense like petty theft or simple assault. On the other hand, felonies are much more important and dangerous to society including crimes such as aggravated assault or kidnapping.

Felonies are more of a punishment than misdemeanors are. For example a felony you can kill someone and got to jail are get killed. A misdeameanor for example is just like getting banned or suspended from something.
