When she was in year 8, sarah could run 800m in 3 minutes and 20 seconds three years later, when she was in year 11 she could run 800 metres in 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Find the percentage improvement in her time

Answer:

18%

Explanation:

3mins 20secs:

3 x 60 + 20 = 200

2mins 44secs:

2 x 60 + 44 =164

200 - 164/ 200 x 100

36/200 x 100 = 18%

Given Sarah could rum 800m in 3 minutes and 20 seconds = 3*60+20 = 200 seconds when she was in year 8.

Where as she could run 800m in 2 minutes 44 seconds = 2*60+44=164 seconds.

Percentage improvement in her time = (difference in time/ original time) * 100


=(200-164)/(200)*100 = (36)/(200)*100 =18%

Hence there is an improvement of 18% in her time.
