Chang rented a truck for one day. There was a base fee of $16.99 , and there was an additional charge of 79 cents for each mile driven. Chang had to pay $152.08 when he returned the truck. For how many miles did he drive the truck?

152.08-16.99= 135.09
135.09/ 0.79 = 171

He drove 171 miles.

I subtracted the base fee. And after that I was left with everything from the miles he drove.
So then I divided the miles by how much he had to pay per mile.

let x be the number of miles Chang drove

.79x

so it goes as this

$16.99+$.79x=$152.08

$16.99-$16.99+$.79x=$152.08-$16.99

$.79x=$135.09

x=$135.09/.79

x=171 miles
