Jamestown was important because it was the first permanent English settlement in North America and it served as the capital of the Virginia colony for over 80 years. Jamestown represented the new beginning, the chance to conquer a continent and a footing for expansion. The tale of love between the Native American princess, Pocahontas and the English explorer, adds to the romance and adventure attached to the town.
