Еwo pages the book is open at are consecutitve integers, let x be the first number, then x+1 is the second number. Find their product:

x·(x+1).

Since the product of the two pages the book is open to is 1,482, you have that

x·(x+1)=1482.

Solve this equation:

x\cdot (x+1)=1482,\\ \\x^2+x-1482=0,\\ \\D=1-4\cdot (-1482)=5929,\\ \\√(D)=77,\\ \\x_1=(-1-77)/(2)=-39,\ x_2=(-1+77)/(2)=38.

Answer: pages 38 and 39.
