Based on the merits of your question, this cannot be sloved and unless you know what the statement equals because we can't slove for two variables based on these merits. But here it is based on the merits:

THIS ONE ASSUMES THE NUMBER OF THE QUOTIENT AND WHAT IT EQUALS IS EQUAL

(x)/( - 5) - 1 = x \\ (x)/( - 5) = x + 1 \\ x = - 5x - 5 \\ 6x = - 5 \\ x = - (5)/(6)
THIS ONE ASSUME THAT THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT VALUES

(x)/( - 5) - 1 = k \\ (x)/( - 5) = k + 1 \\ x = - 5k - 5
