Answer: In WW1 Adolf Hitler was not yet a dictator let alone a household name. However during World War 1 Hitler was still able to amass a following by publishing books such as: Mein Kampf, which was the socialist, anti-semite version of The Communist Manifesto. From this book he rose to power as the leader of the Nazi Party, becoming the chancellor in 1933 and then assuming the title of Führer und Reichskanzler in 1934.
Hope this helps!
