Over the summer Hans ran 89 laps for the track and swam 147 laps of the pool. Hans completed twice as many as his friend lee. How many laps did lee run and swim?

First you would have to add 89 + 147 to find how many laps Hans ran over the summer.

Then you have to divide the answer from 89 + 147 by 2 which is 236 divided by two because Hans' laps were twice as much as lee's do when you do 236 divided by 2 you get 118. So, Lee ran, and swan 118 laps.
