In a manufacturing plant, aisi 1010 carbon steel strips (ρ = 7832 kg/m3) that are 2 mm thick and 3 cm wide are conveyed into a chamber at a constant speed to be cooled from 527ºc to 127°c. determine the speed of a steel strip being conveyed inside the chamber, if the rate of heat being removed from a steel strip inside the chamber is 119 kw.

Here given that

density of carbon steel is = 7832 kg/m^3

thickness = 2 mm = 0.002 m

width = 3 cm = 0.03 m

now the mass is given as

m = \rho * w* t * L]

m = 7832*0.002 * 0.03 * L

m = 0.47*L

now we will use the formula of heat

Q = m s \delta T

now plug in all values

Q = 0.47* L * s* (527 - 127)

here s = specific heat capacity of carbon steel

s = 502.4 J/Kg C

Q = 0.47*L * 502.4 * 400

Q = 94435.1*L

now if we find the rate of heat flow

(dQ)/(dt) = 94435.1 * (dL)/(dt)

119 * 10^3 = 94435.1 * v

v = 1.26 m/s

so its speed is 1.26 m/s
