2y=22-5x

y=11-2.5x

Now that you've found the equation for y, substitute it into the second equation.

-2x+6(11-2.5x)=3

-2x+66-15x=3

-17x=-63

x=3.70588...

Round to nearest tenth-

x=3.7

Answer:

x coordinate of the solution is 3.7

Explanation:

5x+2y=22, -2x+6y=3

USe elimination method to solve for x and y

To eliminate y , multiply the first equation by -3

5x+2y=22

-15x-6y=-66

-2x+6y=3

------------------------------------

-17x=-63

Divide both sides by -17

x=(63)/(17)

Now plug in 63/17 for x and find out y

-2x+6y=3

-2(63)/(17) +6y=3

(-126)/(17) +6y=3

Add the fraction on both sides

6y=3+(126)/(17)

6y=(177)/(17)

Divide by 6 on both sides

y=(59)/(34)=3.4705882=3.5

x=(63)/(17)=3.7058823=3.7
