I thought only Canadians were worried about identity!. We live beside the most identifiable people in the world.

Sentence 1 used to be true. There were many diverse cultures (beginning with the Pilgrims) who sought American Soil for the freedom it offered or at least promised. Trouble is, though 1 used to be true, I don't think it is any longer. Just ask and Mexican American or Muslim. Since this is a literature course (I think) your safest answer is two.

After reading the two selections, which are very different and recorded by different kinds of people, I think you are right. The differences are recorded in the literature of those doing the observing. There's noting the matter with that.
