On a picture the size of rectangular room is 5 cm by 7 cm. Actually the shorter side of the room is 6m. What is the scale of a picture and how long is the longer side of the room? SHOW YOUR WORK

To solve this problem you must apply the proccedure shown below:

1- Express six meters in centimeters:


6m=600cm

2- You know that the shorter side shown in the picture of the rectangular room is 5 centimeters, which represents 600 centimeters, therefore the scale of the picture is:


600:5

3. Divide by 5 to simplify it:


120:1

3. To calculate the larger side (
L)of the room , you need to keep on mind the scale obtained and multiply it by the larger side in the picture of the rectangular room:


L=(7cm)(120)=840cm

Therefore, the answer is: The scale of the picture is 120:1 and the longer side of the room is 840 centimeters.
