Bryan's main point of his speech is that farmers should be highly valued by the country for their hard work and their production of crops. The wealthy or business people should not control the type of currency, such as gold, which costs more money for the farmers.

Farmers cannot afford gold, but would be able to afford silver as their currency. Bryan continues to discuss how gold were really hurt and damage the farmers, who are again the backbone of this country.

Without the farmers, the country cannot thrive and cannot survive. The wealthy should not be corrupt and try to control the average farmer with this currency when the average man cannot afford the gold standard of currency in the first place.
